Wagner 518080 Control Spray Max HVLP Sprayer Review

The Wagner 518080 Control Spray Max HVLP Sprayer does a whole lot for the price.  It has a powerful two-stage turbine engine that sprays heavy latex and thin material like stain.  You can adjust the air pressure with the variable air pressure control.  Whether you are spraying a large surface, like a garage door, or a cabinet door, the flow control adjusts to make it work right.  You can get wherever you need to with the 20 foot High Flex Air Hose.  You also can select from three spray patterns for whatever job you’re working on.  You even get two cups, a 1 quart metal cup and a 1 ½ quart plastic cup, to match the size of the job you’re working on.

I now work in remodeling.  We help give interiors a face lift, and we often get creative with paint on the cabinets and different projects inside and outside the house.  The Wagner is ideal for my work.  In the past, I did a lot of brush painting on different projects.  You save a lot of time using the Wagner sprayer, and you need a lot less materials.

We’ve used the sprayer to spray latex, and at first it took some practice to get the viscosity right.  In the end the results are great.  Everything looks really good because the sprayer does produce an excellent finish.

As stated with the specs above, you have everything you need.  I’m impressed with the quality of the sprayer and everything that came with it.  It also comes with two large air filters, which is for controlling the dust, to protect the finish.

The sprayer has ample power even for professional use, and clean up is extremely easy and quick. The overspray is minimal.

Pros:

  • Great price. You get a lot for the price and save money on materials, compared to what you use when you brush paint.

  • Sprays heavy and thin material.  We’ve used this sprayer for latex and stain jobs, and either way it does a great job with a professional finish.

  • 20 feet of hose.  There’s plenty of hose length included with the sprayer.

  • Excellent finish.  Bottom line here is the sprayer produces an excellent finish.  It produces professional-grade results.

Cons:

  • Takes some practice on regulating the flow.  This was my first time to use a sprayer.  You have to figure out how to regulate the air flow, etc., but once you get it down, no problem.

  • Learning curve on spraying. To produce a smooth finish, you have to figure out the right way to hold the sprayer at the right angles and distance.

I invested in the Wagner 518080 Control Spray Max HVLP Sprayer, thinking I’d get a better sprayer in time.   In other words, I was thinking this would be my starter sprayer, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it’s got the power and versatility I need for all of my remodeling projects.  This sprayer is an excellent investment for anyone who needs to paint and wants a professional finish.
