Paint Sprayer Tips – How to Use Paint Sprayers

how to use paint sprayerMany homeowners and interior designers prefer using paint sprayers so that they can cover big areas in the shortest time.  It is a real time saver especially if you want to get things done in your home as soon as possible.  Paint Sprayers are also great for surfaces that cannot be painted properly using other methods like paint brushes or rollers.  So what are the things that you should remember so that you can make the most out of your paint sprayer?

Protect the areas adjacent to the one that you are going to paint on.  Paint sprayers tend to disperse paint onto a large area so it is best to put protection over the areas that you do not want to be painted on.  Use plastic covers or newspapers along with masking tape. If you are working indoors, seal the area.

If you are working outdoors, choose a day that’s not windy so that you will not be dispersing too much paint into the air.  Cover your car, the plants, walkways and other surrounding areas.  Most of all cover yourself.  Wear long sleeved shirts, gloves, closed shoes, long pants and a mask.

To be able to have a uniform and even coating on any surface, practice first.  Consider using a disposable piece of wood or any material that may be similar to the one that you are painting on.  Adjust the settings so that you can get the result that you want.

As you spray, move the paint sprayer in fluid smooth motions with the nozzle a foot away from the surface.  Do not linger on too long over one area so that you can get an even coating.

Keep a steady hand and maintain the distance that you have established from the nozzle to the surface.  It is better if you have light coats on the surface then you can just add more, rather than having a heavy coat at once.  It will be a little difficult to remedy it.

Do not take rests from painting too long as the paint in the paint sprayer tends to harden if you keep it longer than 15 minutes.  So make sure that the paint you put inside the canister is just enough for you to use on the surface. It is better to add more than waste too much.  If you are done for the day, clean the paint out from the paint sprayer before storage.
